The online betting sites are filled with the lure of riches and easy money. But make no mistake, any seasoned professional gambler, whether he bets on pro football, pro basketball, college basketball, college football, poker, horse-racing, hockey or even the Oscars, will tell you that it takes a lot of hard work and research. Don’t think you’re going to stroll into the gambling world and win because your “lucky”. Oh sure you’ll have some good days, winning big on NBA lines, but on other days you will be eaten alive, missing an NFL point spread. Many of those who embark on the gambling path don’t want to do the work, they just go on “feeling” and these are the ones who become the gambling addicts.
All pros will render this advice to any beginner. Set up a separate account just for gambling. It shall live and breath on its own. This is the “Wad”, the “Stake”. And this thing shall only grow on its own (winnings) or decrease on its own (losses).
It all depends on you skill as a gambler; although grizzled pros prefer the word “investor”. Never dip into the rent money, the food money, Jimmy’s or Mary’s college fund, the Christmas Jar, or your mother-in-law’s medicine money. Don’t start pawning your fifty year old baseball cards and comic books. If you can’t cut it, back up and regroup. Otherwise, once you start chasing, “fuggetaboutit”, the ship is sinking. At that point you are vulnerable to shady and unstable, unrealistic thoughts.
If you make the mistake of succumbing to the just stated demise and commit stupid acts with money, stop and seek help, the gambling game is not for you. There’s no shame in this, in fact most should stay away from excessive betting, because as the old adage goes, “Scared money never wins.”
NBA betting can be exhilarating if enjoyed properly.
